CAPRI HOLDINGS LTD (NYSE: CPRI) POSITION UPDATE

As a small business owner, I have to make decisions often about what is an optimal outcome for my clients, staff, and me.  I get heckled for my consistent response of "What is the risk"? If we don't know the risk, then we should not be doing it. I then get a look of surprise when I share teachable moments to people by applying and concepts from business, cybersecurity, finance, marriage, and raising children. I believe in the 'Circle of Life' and how complex systems share similar principles. I ironically ask my business team to consider the risk of what they are doing and how it impacts our business and then I come how and discuss with my kids (all under the age of 10) about the risks of their actions.  The goal is to create accountability for one's own actions. I stay consistent because instead of accountability I often hear the opposite when things go awry. With my kids, I might hear "well I didn't know" and in the corporate world I see two things: 1) analysis paralysis - the inability for departments to make a decision without escalating to the highest levels of the organization and 2) 'call a guy' mentality - let me outsource my task or decision to another person by adding them to an email or meeting even when they don't add value. This article is to hold me accountable for my investment in CAPRI HOLDINGS.

Human nature is to only write about our investments when they go up. When people ask for financial advice, I joke they should find the podcaster, blogger, influencer, or coach that will be honest about their investments that aren't working. That is someone I want to talk with because there is integrity there. For CAPRI, the buck stops with me and my current investment is not working out and currently has me down or under water by 5 figures! My job is to keep it real, I haven't log into my account recently but I'm sure my investment is down roughly $10K or so. The amount is significant because CPRI represents my largest investment in my personal account. I made a series of trades to amass this position and I have to reflect on whether I miscalculated the risks. Let's revisit the details:

Details by Capri

In the 3rd Quarter of last year, my spidey senses tuned into an announcement from a stock I used to have a decent position in called Tapestry, Inc. In August 2023, Tapestry slid into the DMs of Capri. I saw this hook up of high fashion as a investment that made sense for my portfolio.

Tapestry, owner of Coach, was approaching the house of Versace. So, what were the risks I weighed:

1. Risk of Capri Saying No: I didn't think this was a high risk because on August 10, 2023, Capri made the announcement that they wanted to hook up with Tapestry as the terms of engagement were favorable. I personally think it makes sense because as a connoisseur of hip-hop I hear in songs that the fashion trends are constantly changing. I presume to compete with fast, every day, and high fashion, these brands will acquire each other to keep the marketing efforts in your face, costs down, and prices premium.

2. Risk of Government Regulators Blocking the Acquisition: I didn't think was a high risk because my assumption is fashion is global. One would believe the various countries where these fashion brands live would be on board with supporting their local brands. I have no knowledge of high fashion but image France not supporting Louis Vuitton or Italy and their iconic brands. Heck, I've read that even if these two brands combined, they would only be the 4th largest luxury company in the world.

But why isn't the investment working:

I thought I was correct on all fronts. Capri accepted the terms of marriage and agreed to the hookup. Next, I read that Japan and the European Union regulators even signed off on the marriage and regulators are like parents who approve of marriage. All that was left were US regulators known as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). I joke someone must have known something because this investment has not done well since I made it. Or I should have calculated a higher probability or rejection by the FTC because I got burned on my Tegna investment last year. The FTC has been very aggressive in looking into these deals and just about a week ago they voted to block the marriage. This is bad news for an investor like me but I would agree if I thought communities and companies would be harmed. What is the harm to my community when high fashion brands link up??

Per the FTC, Coach, Kors, and Kate Spade all participate in the handbag and compete and monitor each other to make strategic decisions pricing. Also, every large acquisition could result in the reduction of employees to save costs (and often do).

My response would be: I assume all of these products are out of the common persons reach. I love my spouse and have never attempted to purchase any of these products. Heck, I thought Birkin was the sought after bag according to Cardi B and other celebrities. So whether prices stay high, doesn't impact the average American. Maybe if outlet prices go up it would but again these are vanity purchases...or so I thought.

What I didn't calculate was the FTC's comment on the potential for harm via job reductions. I never even factored that into my equation because that is a normal action or outcome of acquisitions. Looking at this scenario now, I'm not sure Tapestry is all of a sudden going to have all of these products being sold out of super stores, therefore cutting tons of employees. That type of action could water down the experience of these high end brands. So in my opinion the logical loss of employees is limited to the administration functions: marketing, finance, legal, purchasing, etc.

What's Next - Well, Tapestry has sued the FTC's blocking of the merger. If this heads to court, my assumption is that fashion is a competitive contact sport for the luxury brands. I can't keep up with the name dropping in hip-hop songs of new brands every day. Next, a judge may ask why the FTC is the only regulator to block the hook up when Japan and the EU had no problem with it. Finally, I assume the rationale for the merger is it is getting hard to compete in this space and these companies want synergies, or to benefit from best practices, of the combined organization to compete against the onslaught of competition I assume comes from all ends.

For me I will hold, now that I've had a chance to spit out all my thoughts here on paper. I truly struggle with seeing how high fashion impacts the "average" consumer. My assumption is most of these brands are a bit out of reach of the average consumer so the harm is limited to the occasional premium outlet purchase for the consumer (her) feeling good, date night, and influencing on Instagram. I missed the jobs angle and will log that away for the future but if that is critical -- the world would never let any companies merge. I'll watch closely and hold because I think I've learned 2 things - where Capri is valued from here on out based on the terms of the deal and my current assumption that 2/3 approvals may sway a judge to get this across the finish line.

Hello everyone, out there. 2024 has been a blur so far! Wait isn't that the name of Drake's current tour? All I know is the first three months of this year, I have been skating by like Tyla's hit single --- "Water". So, for my first post I want to revisit some trades that have been at the top of my investment playlist. Some have worked, others are clearly on vacation.

Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (BTC) (GBTC) Update

Bitcoin! I've been called many things but don't call me a flip flopper. I recently had someone say, "See I told you about Bitcoin and now you like the investment". My response was as follows "You clearly didn't read my previous post, What? Am I Investing in Bitcoin:  https://urbanomics.blogspot.com/2023/11/what-am-i-investing-grayscale-bitcoin.html "

What I have been called over time is a penny pincher, miser, or as I like to call myself -- a Value Trader. I love to find value. My cryptocurrency friends don't like to tell you about the lumps they absorbed if they bought Bitcoin when it was trading at roughly $60K over a year ago and then precipitously saw it drop to roughly under $20K. The 'Day 1' crypto lovers probably held on to their investment but your average investor may have seen their investment fall almost 100% (...if they bought at the highs) and sold out of fear.

I have to admit, I was triggered into investing in Bitcoin. I watched this Bitcoin drop for over a year and felt for those crypto investors that bought at the highs. But more importantly from my post last November, I was triggered by the fact that crypto industry was suing the SEC to allow them to create and offer Exchange Traded Funds (ETF). ETFs are investment vehicles that allow an investor like me to easily buy and sell, say a commodity (like corn, wheat, gold, crypto, etc.) without having to take ownership of the actual good. I did not want to buy crypto outright because as a cyber professional I've seen the supposed crypto exchanges get hacked (remember Mt. Gox). I have seen crypto influencers post on social media about their wealth only to have crypto robbers (usually friends) beat them up and force them to give up their passwords to their crypto accounts or cold storage devices. Even worse, I saw how FTX and the saga Sam Bankman Friedman played out and the pain it caused many of FTX's crypto investors. An ETF means, no crpto exchange needed, no cold storage required, and no hassle. The VALUE logic I believed was when Bitcoin hit the lower end of $20K there was much more upside than when it was trading at highs of $60K. So, I bought GBTC back in November 2023 at roughly $20 a share. because of the value but more importantly because of the catalyst of the SEC losing this all-important court case. So, I remind my fellow value traders who read my posts on Urbanomics the path that got us here: Value (investment trading at a perceived reasonable discount) + Catalyst (positive legal decision in this case) = great trade even for an investment you may not like or plan to hold forever.

Splunk (SPLK) Update - Deal Close, Trade Done

Stay tuned for my new post of how Splunk is no longer...congrats to Cisco on this hook up. It went down in the DMs and this was a profitable trade for me.

Capri (CPRI) - Trade Underwater

Next, I'll visit my failing trade in Capri. The FTC has stepped in like a thoughtful parent and put this discovered hook up on ice so far. Is this hook up in danger, like my failed Tegna trade.

Pay It Forward - Reddit (RDDT)

Stay tuned for a post on Reddit. I have a gentleman I mentor tell me how he broke out his old Robinhood account and finally made a trade. While he said it was easy money, I reminded him it was a thoughtful trade similar to what Mansa Musa network trader Peter Lynch would do. My friend simply bought something he knew about, used, and had much more insight into that I do.

Let's Go Splunking - Splunk Inc (NASDAQ: SPLK)

I finally get to write about a stock in my line of work -- CYBERSECURITY! So awhile back, I was tracking the DMs of a few friends in my Mansa Musa Network. I don't recall which ones, but it may have been my guys from the A-Billi squad: Mario Gabelli (Gamco Investors) or Jeffrey Smith (Starboard). But long story short is SPLUNK had been underperforming in the stock world. In the regular world it's like the person that has been single for too long and is finally looking for someone to "Put a Ring on It". So, like the horrible reality TV shows of today, they announced they were looking to hook up in a very public way. I saw my buddies mentioning the value in SPLUNK, but I didn't pull the trigger early on. I was tardy and finally decided to pick up some shares ONLY when they finally announced they had found a partner. This partner was the deep pocketed company, called CISCO. They are well known for their enterprise networking and routing equipment. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the device most people attach to their home network for internet that allows you to have wireless or WIFI service.

Definitely do not quote me because it has been a while, but I believe the buyout price was set at $157.50. So, what I did was use a well-known trading strategy on wall street. You've heard me refer to it before at the arbitrage approach. This means if I have high confidence that the deal (or hook up) is going to get done, an investor like me can benefit from the "spread" or difference between the price of when the deal is announced and what the final buyout or hook up price is. The risk becomes IF the deal does not get done (if the bride is left at the altar), this situation becomes a train wreck. Is this possible? Yes, it is --- see my posts on Tegna. This deal was thought to be all but certain and then the FTC stepped in and said the deal was harmful for customers across the country. So, you saw a stock go from $17 to nearly $22+ and come all the way back down because the deal was under investigation and ultimately canceled.

Now back to SPLUNK. I wanted to show you all what corporate governance looks like and what ownership looks like from an investor's standpoint. I got an email telling me it's time to vote on whether I think the merger should occur. I've pasted that screenshot here. I hope and believe this means we are one step closer to closing the deal. This is a great example of how hookups can help your portfolio.

Savage over AVID Technology (NASDAQ: AVID) | IT Goes Down in the DM [Versace, Kors, Jimmy Choo]

So, I typed a text to a girl I used to see
Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be
And I apologize if this message gets you down
Then I CC'd every girl that I'd see see round town and
I hate to see y'all frown but I'd rather see her smiling
Wetness all around me, true, but I'm no island
Peninsula maybe, makes no sense I know, crazy
Give up all this pussy cat thats in my lap no lookin back

Song: Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)

Artist: UGK featuring Outkast
Produced by DJ Paul and Juicy J

SAVAGE over AVID Technology (Nasdaq: AVID)

Avid (NASDAQ: AVID), just got Chose. Like Beyonce said 'Put a Ring On It" and AVID announced that it will be acquired or hook up with a company linked to STG in an all-cash deal.  Avid shareholders will receive $27.05 in cash and this makes one of the quickest wins I've ever had investing in stocks. Not the quickest though. I'll post my trades but I have to get back to it.

See My Post on AVID Technology

It Goes Down in the DM --- Capri Holdings (NYSE: CPRI)

I believe in love and positive vibes, energy, and frequencies. I still hold a few shares of Tapestry Inc., which most of us know as the brand Coach. Tapestry also own Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman. Am I going high fashion? No, it doesn't bring me much satisfaction in life but for many is sells music and is aspirational. So, its no surprise that Tapestry slid into the DMs of Capri Holdings who owns high fashion names like Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo. Cue the Migos -- Versace Versace Versace! Capri just got Chose and clearly love is in the air and they will will be hooking up at roughly $57 a share.

I have been out of the markets for over a year and I'm finally seeing an atmosphere I likely likely. I still think we are headed for turbulent waters in the stock market. So I like to look for stocks that like to hook up as this presents opportunities that are lower on my risk scale. I also am starting to see stocks getting hammered after what I believe is a fake run up recently, likely due to the AI craze. Robolox was down 20% + after earnings, Magnite was falling, Beyond Meat was down big, and the cyber stocks have "Put it On Da Floor" recently. You have to be very very careful in this environment so you're not catching a falling knife? WTF does that even mean, I don't really know but in regular people speak you don't to invest in someone or in the case of stocks something that will keep letting you down (cue a Mary J. Blige heartbreak song).

IT GOES DOWN IN THE DM - Avid Technology (NASDAQ:AVID)

IT GOES DOWN IN THE DM - Avid Technology (NASDAQ:AVID)

I usually hate that technology is always watching or should I say listening to what you're doing. In a recent episode of "Billions", they were covering the subject of wire taps. There were strict rules of what you could listen to and where you could listen. The bedroom was off limits and also if a lawyer was present ---listening is a no-no.

Things that may you go hmmm --- we have strict rules for wiretaps but not for the proliferation of devices listening to people all day in their homes and in their bedrooms.

But it's Friday, I'm not gonna be too cranky because there is the occasional positive use case of computers watching our every move. OCCASIONALLY, they add something to my feed that I really find of use. That happened last night, I believe. In my feed was Reuters story about it reminded me that "Investors never sleep". So, as I was in bed, I took screenshots of the article so I could evaluate trades the next morning. I hope you're listening -- the Early Bird Gets the Worm.

Here were some of those details:

2 companies, Symphony Technology Group & Francisco Partners, just jumped in the Direct Messages (DMs) of and Avid Technology (NASDAQ:AVID). You chose the analogy but I liken it to:

- 2 sports teams looking to sign a player on the market

- 2 people looking to date the same person

- 2 people haggling over the same car

What this means is "usually" the price is going to go up until someone walks away. Time for me to quote Fat Joe:

#yesterdayspriceisnottodaysprice

This is one way I keep investing, simple straightforward and fun. Now the harder part is at what price point and how do you setup the trade? The funny thing is MANY years ago I traded Avid but I don't think it was profitable, I'll need to go back and read my own blog this weekend to see. Peace out its Friday!

ACTIVISION BLIZZARD INC

Hello everyone, I hope you're enjoying a good summer. I've been laying low from the stock market as you guys have previously read. Some may say I've missed out on this year's rise in stocks and that is partially true. Many people don't know that the market has actually risen as a result of primary 7 stocks that have been very hot because of the latest buzzword AI - Artificial Intelligence. So if you've owned NVIDIA, MICROSOFT, META PLATFORMS (formerly FACEBOOK), APPLE, ALPHABET (aka GOOGLE), AMAZON, TESLA then you've done very well this year, however; all other stocks have just done BLAH.

So I've opted for the slow and less risky approach while the government tries to still cool down what has been referred to as an overheating economy. As interest rates have gone up, I've focused more on taking advantage of those increased interest rates to collect 4 to 5% on the cash I'm sitting on in my retirement and personal bank accounts. I have stayed invested in investment account, but I've not been overly active. So what has worked for me:

I've continued to rely on my Mansa Musa network of friends. If you're not sure what this network is about, just run a search on my blog and get familiar with this approach. When there is uncertainty in the air, I believe in strength in numbers and invest with friends. Just over a year ago my 93-year-old buddy Warren Buffett started buying shares in Activision Blizzard.

It Goes Down in the DM - Activision

I watched patiently after Microsoft slid into Activision DMs in January 2022 to the tune of $69 billion to hook up. As Buffett saw they were willing to 'put a ring on it', his company bought roughly 50 million. When we invest in companies hooking up, we hope they make it all the way to the alter. If you're a sports person, we hope the trade for the star player goes through. Two things subsequently happened that may me want to jump on board:

Back in May 2022, the stock market was falling and there was rumblings that these two were not going to make it to the alter. The trade might get cancelled. In the stock world, it's usually because US and international governments have to bless the deal to ensure it's not anticompetitive. This is like your parents blessing your marriage or the owners blessing the trade. This blessing was getting pushback in the US and UK. So there was VALUE as the stock dropped. What did I do, I decided to gamble with my Mansa Musa buddy Warren Buffet. I jumped in at the range of $69 - $75 a share.

I don't play poker but I and Warren Buffett were making a bet that the merger (aka hook up) would go through. If it did...if they made it to the alter the predetermined buyout price would be $95 a share. I like simplicity sometimes when I invest and I thought I was getting a discount on a great stock which I don't mind owning. The bonus or side bet is if this great stock gets the blessing to get married - then I get the guaranteed upside to $95 a share. In short Activision's stock should rise as long as Microsoft gets the blessing of it's parents (in the form of governments across the world). This got nasty like Real Housewives and went to court in the US, but the blessing finally happened. What happened to my simple thesis from over a year ago.

Don't believe me, well go back look for yourself:

Also Coming Soon - a series on #HowtoInvest. People have been reaching especially after the spikes in Gamestop, AMC, and other stock to learn the basics. I self-taught myself how to invest beginning at the age of roughly 18 and have never stopped. To be a good investor and ensure you are not gambling (speculating), I'll cover (hardest parts of investing in RED):

Budgeting 101 - How to Fund Ur Investments?
Why Stocks as an Investment?
What is Ur Investment Profile + Personality?
How to Pick Stocks?
When to Buy Stocks?
How to Enter My Trade?
How Many Stocks Should I Own?
When to Sell Stocks?
Am I Speculating (Gambling)?

Peloton Interactive Inc (PTON)

I get many readers ask me the question: "What do you mean when you say Value Stocks"? Then I refer them back to my favorite analogy. I have stuck in my head, from my youth, that candy bars should be $50c. When I travel the country and have to stop at a gas station, I WILL NOT buy candy unless it's $50c. I'm stubborn like that. I'll get the king size bar only if it's $1 dollar. A value stock is when you've done your homework and know what you think it should sell for like my Reese's cups. A value investor like myself tries (key word) to only buy when I see my Reese's cups (or a stock) AT or BELOW this level. Yes, go ahead and make fun of me but I'm principled in that way. I apply the same standard to stocks. I prefer to buy when I see it on sale and have a price in mind.

Don't believe me just watch moment: Go back and search for one of my best investments ever, Sprint. Sprint got "beat down" like they stole something, and I swooped in. When T-Mobile came calling, they offered a higher price to merge (as we say here "date" or "hook up" with) Sprint. It was truly a beautiful trade and we made lots of money.

I think Peloton is starting to shape up the same way my Sprint trade did. This stock was once as high as $150 just a year ago. To me, Peloton is just a bike but the stock skyrocketed once it came public. It has fallen from grace to a low of $22 dollars. Like the winter olympics, you don't want a stock chart that is sloping downhill...not good.

Rumor has it companies may be sliding into their DM trying to hookup. I bought some Peloton today because it reminds me of whenever I find Reese's cups for $50c. Usually, it's a time to load up because I just don't see if often. With Peloton, I still struggle with the need for an overpriced exercise bike. I will probably need to interview some actual users to fully understand all the benefits, but I said the same thing about the Apple iPhone and many people are happy with paying for an overpriced phone. I think there is definitely a market for the "connected" use of the bike but clearly, I didn't agree with the price of the stock. I finally feel somewhat vindicated, now that the stock has cratered but it took a while to get here. Long story short, is I can see clearly now the rain is gone. And I think Pelton is worth some risk if Amazon, Apple or other suitors wanna hookup.

Kohl's (KSS) - I Got the Hookup Alert (Jan 2022)

Many say that 2022 will be the return of the Stockpicker's Only club. What this means in Wall Street speak is that the easy money days are probably over. I would love to see the stats but I'm sure even the Reddit Forums volumes are lower that they've been over the last year. Last year, any stock you touched or bought was red hot! But the difference between the newbies and the veterans is the wisdom of having seen situations like this before...and for other veteran investors: having discipline. If you replay the last year or two on my blog, you'll notice that I primarily moved to options in an attempt to manage my risk. Yes, I owned Gamestop and AMC and ironically got out of these positions after 100 or 200% returns. Many went on to hold for much more higher gains. Unfortunately, too many newbies are still holding and watching those magical gains erode. As I've mentioned here before and had to learn the hard way...it never hurts to take some of your winnings off the table in a disciplined manner. Even I fell victim to this as my investment in Roku skyrocketed beyond belief. It has cratered back down and while I have a measly 4 figure gain it used to represent a large 5 figure gain. I could've done some things a little bit better but AT LEAST, I was trading against ROKU on a regular basis.

What did I do Right?

1) Hedge - I used options to hedge against my growing holding. This is a way that many of us investors collect INCOME (or as I like to call it a stimulus check). When Roku hit $200, I would write an option betting it wouldn't reach $250, $300, $400, and even $500. As long as those levels weren't reached, I received a small check for my time. I'd have to go back and calculate my win % but it was high, and the gains were steady.

What did I do Wrong?

1) Pay Attention - I was busy building my cyber business and didn't keep hammering my income generating strategy into the end of the year. Not a biggie. If you check every day, investing will consume you. Buy stocks you can purchase and forget for a while. If you have to own stocks you must check daily...that could be bad for your wealth and health. But fair enough I could've taken a peek in the last 5 months of the year.

2) Stop Loss Trade - While many people use this for capping their losses, I could have used this type of trade to simply exit a VERY profitable trade. I didn't put an exit trade on because I was busy (see point #1) but primarily because of taxes. This was a biggie and I saw a huge gain dwindle but happy to still be up thousands of dollars. Why didn't I get out...because I was FORCED to lock in gains from Collectors Universe. When you have a 10x bagger on your hands the gains are astronomical, and I was very concerned about the tax implications of both Collectors Universe and ROKU in the same year. I would have had capitals in the range of what I made in one year in Corporate America on top of the fact that I already have a steady job this would have easily put me into a brand-new tax bracket. Again, this is simply RPP - Rich People's Problems or a First World issue... but I wanted to be transparent on why I personally didn't sell.

What Likely Works in 2022 - VALUE + Mansa Musa Network

Value is often described as a beaten down, unloved stock. You've read before that I like to look for those unloved gems, wait for people to see the shine or polish and then watch them rise. Collectors was like that and that turned out amazing. I'm staying locked into to a few of these trades in 2022. One trade being Kohls, the other being Tegna.

Kohl's - I Got the Hook Up

It goes down in the DM and once again my Mansa Musa Network trade is Kohls appears to be heating up. A beaten down stock is being being courted by hedge funds and private equity funds on Wall Street...don't believe me just watch:

Acacia Research appears to have just slid into Kohl's DM and they wanna hook up at a value of $64 dollars. Considering Kohl's is trading in the mid 40s when I wrote this they may be heading for the Love Boat.

Talk about your DM blowing up. Kohl's has just had another suitor slide into their DMs. Sycamore has joined the party and they want to Netflix and chill.

So stayed tune and be very careful as the easy money days are ending. Don't say you were NOT told as the Federal Reserve has been carefully telling you they are increasing interest rates because everyone is making money...off stocks, Bitcoin, NFTs, trading cards, etc. It means it's time to cool things down a bit. Now is time for my value strategy to shine and occasionally I'll go hunting with some of my Mansa Musa Network friends. Potential hookups like I've written before will offer tremendous value.

Final Detail:
1. I got my Sherlock Holmes on and did my own personal research
2. My research found an investment firm trying to slide into WR Grace's DM
3. Strategy: Companies are like People: Sliding into DMs can often lead to Hooking Up! Hook Ups can result in the stock price going up.
4. When to Buy: - After reviewing my research I bought the stock
5. Need Some Help: Sign Up for my Subscriber Alerts - I alerted subscribers about my "It Goes Down in the DM" trade. And noted if the two companies hook up we make $$$

Keep Updated on Your Investments:

You can use a tracking site, however; this update landed in my Google Feed. Yeah they watching and listening but we'll address privacy later. Funny, this type of gossip about hooking up actually makes me $$$, TMZ does not:

When to Sell:

Arguably selling a stock is the hardest thing in the world to figure out when to do. We got lucky here because when your stock finally decides to get married the final price is determined for you. Last night, in my Google feed (I know, don't say it) I saw this article. So I did a happy dance and made a decent amount of $$$.

Columbia, Maryland-based W.R. Grace, one of the oldest specialty chemical makers in the country, has agreed to be acquired by New York-based Standard Industries Holdings in a deal valued at $7 billion, including Grace’s pending acquisition of Albemarle Corp.’s fine chemistry services business.

Standard Industries’ all-cash acquisition of Grace is being made through its investment platform, 40 North Management LLC, one of Grace’s long-standing shareholders.

The $70 per share acquisition represents a 59% premium over Grace’s closing stock price on Nov. 6, 2020, the last trading day before 40 North’s initial proposal to acquire the company on Nov. 9.

Regular People Language:
  • 40 North Slid into W.R. Grace's DM
  • W.R. Grace said I'm cool hooking up with you now that you've raised to $70. I've got expensive habits
  • W.R. Grace previously rejected hooking up at $60 and then $65
  • The wedding date is set for Nov 9th
  • Investors like us here at Urbanomics will be paid $70 in cash. My subscribers got an alert to buy in at $54.97

My personal challenge to you...join me and #getthebag !!! Thanks to my subscribers, they benefited from a roughly $1500 gain in 5 months on only 100 shares. Do the math 200 shares = $3000 and so on

Ceasars Update: I'm All In...Were U

Quick Update: Ceasars Entertainment's acquisition (i.e., hook up) with El Dorado is approved by all remaining state gaming commissions...the deal is officially sealed.

I most recently wrote here about my Ceasars' trade: Ceasars and El Dorado Hook Up

You also learned in this post about my drive to independent and bout it bout thanks to Master P, Diddy, Robert Smith, and countless black business men. Even though I still have a 9-5 as they say, I have to stay game ready. After spending time with the family, it's back to work. Grinding through the day's news and articles to sharpen my craft...like being in the gym or music studio. I love data analytics so I look for public news available to everyone, analyze the risk, and think deeply about what the projected outcome will be. Many will laugh because being a contrarian I often don't think too hard...I often ask what does the everyday person think will happen and usually I invest and sometimes bet that "the opposite" will occur. Sharks were circling this iconic Ceasars brand awhile back and my billionaire buddy Tilman Fertitta made no secret about it when he was trying acquire the brand I believe a year or so ago via his Golden Nugget holding. Data provided to you in plain sight, now I just needed to evaluate the business and the risk. Well, I didn't have to go far...I practically used to call Vegas a second home for a minute. I'd go 3 sometimes 4 times a year to relax, sports bet, and just let loose with my friends. Where did we often find ourselves...at Ceasars one of the most iconic and recognizable brands in the world. When El Dorado tried to slide into Ceasars DM, many said laughed and said who is El Dorado...they are smaller, less known, and even that the deal would consolidate too much power. I laughed that sounds a lot like our politics and world today. The rich get richer and leaders across the world continue to consolidate power.

So the investment was simple, the gaming industry would salivate at a gigantic new company that will document across the US (casinos are in the South, 4 in New Jersey alone, tracks in Indiana and of course, gaming in Vegas). Then COVID hit and many bailed on their position...need proof look as Ceasars stock price as it dropped to $6. Yes, I flinched as they said no one would go to Casinos a potential hot spot for infection and the gaming commissions would balk at so much consolidation. But I block out the noise and look deeper --- there was too much money to be made, too much power now in the hands of a few players...and citizens who rather be drinking and playing slots then worrying about their health.  So from $6 to know it's well over $12 dollars. We get a little less than $9 bucks paid out being shareholders and the remaining balance is given to us in stock of the newly formed El Dorado/Ceasars entity.

Nice work for all who got in on the trade...now time for a new stock to invest in.

One of my many trips to Ceasars:

#datadriventrades #againstthegrain #payitforward #ifnotnowthenwhen

Other recent examples of going against the grain:

Sprint -- Traded down to $4 and Wall Street gave it a 35% chance of being approved. Outcome: T-Mobile Acquired Sprint for one of my biggest trades ever

Covid-19 -- I called for shutdowns, masks, and collective unity. Most people thought it's fake and would rather kick it at the beach. Multiple rounds of stimulus means people are hurting, bankruptcies are rising, lockdowns will continue as cases spike. Vaccines are rarely found in the first year...so the Federal Reserve can only inflate the economy for so long. Be safe and be ready

Artist: Master P + Sons of Funk ~ Song: I Got The Hook Up

So for a short period of time, I've decided to open up my portfolio to help educate people. United we stand and by investing you can be independent, self-owned and bout it bout (thanks P). You can follow wild Reddit investing pages that chronicle how one person made $1M out of his $35K retirement account but those stories never tell you how many people flamed out taking crazy risks. This is about investing in yourself and your goals for the long-term. It's about diversifying your streams of income so that you make decisions on your own terms. It's not a overnight dream, but a long-term goal that you have to plan for. Being musically inclined, I remember a time when Master P said Ughhhh but more importantly I always heard him say "independent, black-owned and I'm bout it bout".  Yes sir, I remember this like it was yesterday but it was over 2 decades ago since Master P dominated the scene. Flashback: In high school, I used to go back and forth about which record label was the best. My man Darryl Baxter was definitely in the No Limit Records camp (the record label of Master P) and so was Ed Whitney. I've always gone against the grain, so to make this a competitive debate each day I took the other side and would always say Sean Puffy Combs and his Bad Boy record label was better. I know --- two successful black men meant we all were right at the end of the day but those debates were memorable. But what they didn't know was I was in the No Limit Camp way before I was a fan of Bad Boy because my dad (being a music lover) brought home a "tape" from the "record" store back then. Don't ask me how or why but he had a tape of Master P's "Ice Cream Man" which I played on repeat over and over and over. The moral of this story is similar to Master P, I write this post to plan a seed in one person's mind just like Master P did when he had a whole generation repeating that phrase. And for the record, NO, I was not inspired to be the "Ice Cream Man" but to be independent black-owned and yes bout it bout it. Next time I'll tell you about Suave House and my clique but let's stay focused.

If you haven't noticed, over the years I've had my fair share of stock hookups. On Wall Street, we call this activity: mergers, acquisitions, and takeovers. My search for value sometimes leads others in the same direction and I get lucky if a big investor or company buys out the company I own for a nice premium --- a hookup. No long story today but I wanted to highlight E-Trade Financial. I like to do research to find my next investment and often benefit from small clues hiding in plain site. If you don't believe me go back and read my posts on Sprint. It will go down as one of my most memorable investments because it was based off of the fact that the CEO (Marcelo Claure) and the Chairman of the Board (Masayoshi Son) both sold their houses before the deal was ever close to being finalized. haha who sells a $10M crib next to Sprint's headquarters unless you're on good authority you won't need it anymore.

My trade in E-Trade (no pun intended) started from the fact that apps like RobinHood, Dough and others were massively disrupting the retail stock trading space. With 20 years of investing under my belt, I can truly tell you the hardest problem to overcome is the fees which eat into your profits when making a trade. RobinHood and others have helped to reduce those fees to $0. TD Ameritrade and E-Trade were hurt badly kinda like how record sales were impacted once streaming became a thing. So along came Charles Schwab (SCHW) who decided to hookup with TD Ameritrade. There were rumors that consolidation was coming to the industry but I was slow and missed an opportunity to trade AMTD. So I kept an eye on ETFC and decided if I couldn't get the first option, I would trade the second option. Morgan Stanley (MS) came calling and slid into E-Trade's DM. The terms are Morgan Stanley will give ETFC shareholders 1.0432 for every share of MS. This is a good example where my current trade is not yet profitable (note: it was prior to COVID-19 market crash) but you need to have patience. However, if the deal closes in the 4th Quarter as expected, this trade will become profitable once closed or when my trade expiry date (Jan 2021) hits.

Always remember, there is strength in numbers
